For this session, by popular demand, we are focussing on the topic “how to accurately estimate your project budgets or schedule”. We will have two presenters, each providing a perspective.

The first speaker is Mike Wood, Associate Director at Broadleaf, discussing “Quantitative Risk Analysis of Project Schedules, Costs and Benefits”.

He will navigate us through the use of Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) in the project context, and while its use is on the increase it has yet to become “the norm”. The question then has to be asked why this is the case given that Monte Carlo simulation tools are readily available. The presentation will provide an overview of QRA, why it is so useful to project sponsors and managers, as well as some of the things to watch out for.

Mike is a highly experienced risk management practitioner and senior manager. He is a past Chairman of the New Zealand Society for Risk Management (now called RiskNZ). Mike’s consultancy work at Broadleaf centres on the provision of advice, training and consultancy services in qualitative and quantitative project risk management, and risk management framework development and deployment.

Mike’s clients include a wide range of private and public sector organisations. In New Zealand, Mike is on the All of Government’s panel of providers for independent quantitative risk assessment services and he has delivered many quantitative project schedule, cost, and benefit risk assessments to public sector clients. He has also provided these services to private sector organisations for infrastructure and technology projects and has carried out major reviews of risk management frameworks for clients.
